ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Right now, Sammy Hagar is awfully glad he’s not in Van Halen anymore.
The legendary rock band he led for more than a decade after replacing David Lee Roth in 1986 launched a tour in February with Roth back at the helm. But Van Halen on Thursday postponed dozens of shows this summer that had been scheduled for months, without giving a reason.
Hagar thinks he knows why.
“They’re hard people to get along with, those brothers,” Hagar told The Associated Press on Friday. “Otherwise I’d still be in the band.
“I’m surprised it took this long” for the tour to experience major difficulties, he added. “I predicted this was going to happen a lot sooner. I lost money on that bet!”
A source familiar with the tour who was not authorized to speak publicly confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday that some of the band’s long-scheduled performances this summer are being postponed. The group’s website lists active tour dates through June 26.
Representatives of the band and AEG, which is promoting the concerts in some regions, did not respond to messages from the AP.
Hagar actually had two go-rounds with Van Halen, but left each time after clashes with guitarist Eddie and drummer Alex Van Halen. Roth left the band in 1985 to launch a solo career after similar personality clashes with the Van Halens, but reunited with them in 2007.
In February, the band released its first studio album together in 28 years, “A Different Kind Of Truth,” and has been touring to support it.
Hagar was in Atlantic City at his Sammy’s Beach Bar on the Boardwalk, where he donated $10,000 to St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church for its food pantry. He said he tries to donate to food banks in each city he visits while on tour with his current band, Chickenfoot, which was to play The House of Blues on Friday night.
“They make the money go so far,” he said of the food pantries. “They can get 2 1/2 meals out of a dollar!”
Monsignor William Hodge said he’s grateful for Hagar’s donation, which will be used to fatten the grocery bags of the hundreds of people who come to the church’s food pantry twice a week, many of whom work low-wage jobs but still don’t have enough to eat.
“Some families come to us with six to eight children,” Hodge said. “We’ll make sure there’s plenty of meat in their bags of groceries.”

E! News caught up with John Legend at the EW-ABC party on Wednesday night, and when they asked the singer his thoughts on the recent news that Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are joining FOX’s singing competition, “The X-Factor” as judges, Legend said the news was “interesting.”
“It should be very interesting. I don’t have much to say,” said Legend, who is set to star in ABC’s new singing competition, “Duets.”
“It’s interesting when people, you know, are judging singing competitions when they aren’t really singers.” Ouch!
We don’t know who John has been listening to, but Demi is absolutely a singer! Has he heard her amazing vocals on “ target=”_hplink”>Skyscraper” or the pitch-perfect “ target=”_hplink”>For the Love of A Daughter?” We love you, John Legend. But, perhaps you need to give Demi a second listen.
What do you think of John Legend’s comment about Demi? Dish in the comments!

An aged but ageless Mick Jagger hosted the season-finale of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” this week and offered his own take on the 2012 presidential campaign – blues style – and slipped in a scatological profanity during his performance.
Jagger spoke of his passion for the blues before delivering an out-of-nowhere politically-themed tune with guitarist Jeff Beck about the election that eluded to Mitt Romney’s “hair-cutting” prank (“You better not let him cut your hair”) in prep school. “If you want to sleep in the West Wing, you got to strategize a bit,” Jagger sang, before dropping the “s-word.” His election prediction closed with: “Who will be the president come November? Well, it’s anybody’s guess … I’ll betcha in six months he’ll be screaming, ‘Honey, won’t you let me out of this mess?’”
Anytime you can catch Jagger performing live and cursing on national TV, even at 68, it’s worth the effort to lift the clicker. The music and musically-themed skits justified the 90-minute effort required. The rest of the show was pretty much filler. In his monologue, the front-man of “The Rolling Stones” said “The Free Credit Report.Com” band is his new favorite musical group and joked he once was approached by “Ruby Tuesday’s” to sing for the opening of one of their restaurants.
Jagger was accompanied by Arcade Fire as he delivered a timeless version of “ Last Time.” Jagger experienced an electric Nervous Breakdown” with the Foo Fighters, who also joined him for Only Rock and Roll.”
The show closed with a full-cast musical dancing farewell tribute to Kristen Wiig, SNL’s funniest cast member, who is leaving after seven seasons. Jagger started it as a school principal speaking at “graduation” and it evolved into a mass sing-along of “She’s a Rainbow” and “Ruby Tuesday.”
The best laughs: Jagger was a dead-ringer for Steven Tyler, who joined host Dave Matthews (Bill Hader) and judges Jewel (Abby Elliott) Carlos Santana (Fred Armisen) on the very grunge “So You Think You Can Dance at an Outdoor Music Festival.” His “Burger King” plug was bitingly sweet.
Jagger showed a coy dead-pan side as “Kevin Miller” – a flummoxed insurance agent who had to watch a couple of his pals, Armisen and Bobby Moynihan, perform some over-the-top “Mick Jaggers” at a karaoke night. Jagger/Miller couldn’t perform because of stage fright. But he closed with an a cappella version of “Satisfaction” that was neatly brilliant.
During the week, Jagger tweeted: “At Wednesday’s script read through. Read 36 sketches to narrow it down to 7.” They could have cut it down to just those two and added five more songs.
He played several flamboyant, brash characters, including Chaz Bragman,” a 1960s action filmstar in the throw-back game-show “Secret Word” skit, the lost dad in “The Californians,” (Steve Martin made a surprise cameo there.) and left Al Sharpton (Kenan Thompson) speechless as a J.P. Morgan financial analyst. Not an easy feat.
On the non-Jagger front, we were treated to “Lazy Sunday 2,” given some New York travel tips by our old pal, Stefon, during “Weekend Update” and saw a pretty cool real “Spiderman” ad. Jon Hamm, who became a regular of sorts this season, handled the guest spot on the show’s “Lawrence Welk” opening.

Fader says:
Recently re-jailed Mystikal and Mannie Fresh vibe around cars target=”_blank”>again, visiting a swampy raceway in the clip for “Move Fast,” their collaboration with New Orleans funk five-piece Galactic. Over brassy parade wobble, Mystikal raps about partying at age 40, unable to meet a girl on the floor because of his bad knees. Even so, he doesn’t lack for energy, ferociously pantomiming lyrics like slapped that alligator, bit that shark. Fresh didn’t produce “Move Fast” (from Galactic’s Mardi Gras-inspired Carnivale Electricos, out now), but Mystikal told MTV that since returning home, he and Fresh have collaborated on “about five” tracks. Those target=”_blank”>songs probably won’t end up on Mystikal’s Cash Money debut, though, says label CEO Birdman. “Honestly, I don’t care to work with Fresh and none of his music… I want him with all new music. No disrespect to Fresh, but we ain’t on that sound,” he toldXXL last year. In July, Mystikal will release a mixtape called Origins, more likely to feature tracks made with Fresh. “What I do with Mannie is what I do with Mannie, what I do with my company is with the company,” he said.
